IP Tables is Fun!

Set up an old computer as a web server/router/firewall. Since it's not just a stripped down wireless card like a store-bought router is, I can have much more control over how it behaves.

The wireless itself is unsecured, anyone can connect to it, but if you're not on a list of known computers, you get added to the block, instead of the

Any web requests from a address is automatically redirected to icanhascheeseburger.com. No matter what.

LOLcats. All day. Every day.

You want Google? Have a cat instead.

Hotmail? Cat.


On a less asinine note, it filters out ads automatically.

Tee hee hee; my router lets me serve unrecognized MACs a specific page, but it's not a remote page--I have to actually upload it into the router. It'll let me make one up to 1MB, though, so I could make a really, really cruel page.

For instance, a Google Clone that serves them a page of insulting results.

I will have to let Scott know of the hijinks that can be had. He's in networking classes at Clark State right now but of course they won't tell him about fun stuff like this.
